Getting you started in Ultimate Frisbee

What is ultimate?

Ultimate frisbee is a non-contact, self-refereed, (usually) mixed-sex sport, in which the goal is to move a frisbee into the hands of a friendly player at the opposite end of the pitch whilst having as much fun as possible. Ultimate is played both indoors and outdoors.
The primary focus of playing ultimate can best be summed up by rule 1, in the World Flying Disc Federation rulebook (abridged):
1. Spirit of the Game
1.1.   Ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed sport. All players are responsible for administering and adhering to the rules. Ultimate relies upon a Spirit of the Game that places the responsibility for fair play on every player.
1.2.   It is trusted that no player will intentionally violate the rules;
1.3. Players should be mindful of the fact that they are acting as referees in any arbitration between teams.
1.4.   Highly competitive play is encouraged, but should never sacrifice the mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed-upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play.
1.7.   Teams are guardians of the Spirit of the Game.
1.8.   In the case where a novice player commits an infraction out of ignorance of rules, experienced players are obliged to explain the infraction.

Who are you?

"NoFrills", Cardiff University Ultimate is a motley crew of players drawn from all over the university. Many of the players had their first exposure to ultimate playing for NoFrills, so we know what being a complete novice is like, and probably still remember - this all means that you're bound to find many other freshers in the same boat at NoFrills.
We're a friendly bunch who enjoy socialising and take pleasure in neither pressuring people, or tormenting freshers.
We don't bite. Much.

How do I find out more?

Come along to see ultimate being played and talk to some of the current membership.

Sports Fayre
We're also going to have a table at sports fayre on Friday 28th September 2007. This is the easiest place and time to sign up for the club (as you will need to get an AU card as well) and will provide another opportunity to talk to current members.
